Phase three bite-size courses launched & other new training subsidies

The Black Country Skills Factory is pleased to launch a third programme of bite-sized training courses for High Value Manufacturing (HVM) companies in the Black Country. We are also offering subsidies to a number of existing technical training courses.

The subsidised courses are developed in conjunction with specialist training providers and colleges, and aim to support employers in the HVM sector address skills gaps and shortages in their workforce.

Brokered bite-sized courses delivered from early February to late June 2014 cover various aspects of up-skilling in the following disciplines:

Maintenance Multi-skilling & Production Setting:
• Factory Electrical Supplies – 2 days
• Switches, Relays & Sensors – 1 day
• Basic Pneumatics – 1.5 days / Advanced Pneumatics – 1.5 days
• Basic Hydraulics – 1.5 days / Advanced Hydraulics – 1.5 days
• 17th Edition Wiring regulations – conversion from 16th – 1 day + exam
• 17th Edition Wiring regulations – 4 days + exam
• Siemens PLC – intermediate level - 2 days

Welding & Fabrication:
• Arc (Stick) / Mig Welding – Introductory  – 2 days
• Mig Welding – Improvers – 2 days
• Tig Welding – Improvers – 2 days
• Aluminium Tig Welding – 2 days
• Fabrication (upskill welders with fabrication skills) – 3 days
• Safe operation & setting of Amada press brake – 1 day

CNC Machining & Setting:
• Vertical & Horizontal Milling – Heidenhain 530/540i Control Programming – 2 days
• Vertical & Horizontal Milling – Fanuc Control Programming – 2 days
• Vertical Milling – Changeover & alignment of fixtures – 1 day
• CNC turning – Jaw setting and Bar feeds – 1 day

Metal treatment, Metallurgy & Toolroom:
• Metallurgy for non-metallurgists (introduction to metallurgy) – 2 days
• Principles of Heat Treatment – 1 day
• Non Destructive testing of metals – (principles) – 1 day
• Understanding drawing tolerances – 1 day


Course information and booking

Course costs (net of Skills Factory subsidy (£60)) will be £130 per person, per day.
