ITN Productions were commissioned by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) to produce a feature news programme to promote the importance of engineering in the UK and the role it plays in our society and economy.

The Black Country Skills Factory was featured in the film as an example of a local and targeted project aimed at improving the skills needed for the high value manufacturing sector in the Black Country.

Natasha Kaplinsky presents the programme, Working to Engineer a Better World, which features examples of the support offered to Black Country manufacturers and the impact of the Manufacture Your Future careers resources developed by the Skills Factory to encourage young people to pursue careers in engineering.

Filming took place at Carbex Ltd, a small business based in Kingswinford who have been supported to take on an apprentice, the RSA Academy in Tipton, Huf UK Ltd and Hadley Industries.

The film was launched to trade professionals at the IET Achievement Awards and IET Innovation Awards in London on Wednesday 19 November 2014.
