Skills Factory engineering apprentice wage subsidies for companies

By Black Country Skills Factory

As the new academic term is approaching, the Black Country Skills Factory would like to remind employers of the two types of wage subsidy we have available for high value manufacturing (HVM) companies in the Black Country taking on engineering apprentices.

As this is a peak season for registering apprentices onto Level 3 and Level 4 apprenticeship qualifications, now is the ideal time to apply for these wage subsidies. In particular, we would like to remind employers of the Progression Subsidy if they are looking to further develop their engineering apprentices to the next level.

Progression wage subsidy

The Skills Factory offer a subsidy of £1,250 for companies that continue to employ and up-skill apprentices to their next level (e.g. Level 2 to Level 3, or Level 3 to Level 4) in HVM / engineering apprenticeships.

To be eligible, the apprentice must be paid at least the National Minimum Wage and have just successfully completed a Performing Engineering Operations apprenticeship at Level 2 (or a relevant engineering apprenticeship at Level 3) in the organisation. One progression subsidy is available per company.

We are also continuing to offer our:

First apprentice wage subsidy

Subsidies of up to £1,500 are also offered to companies who are taking on new engineering apprentices on the Performing Engineering Operations apprenticeship.

To be eligible, the apprentice must be starting their Level 2 apprenticeship and be paid the National Minimum Wage. The organisation must not have taken on a new apprentice within the last 12 months. One Level 2 subsidy is available per company in addition to the AGE grant (subject to eligibility criteria).

Both subsidies are limited and strictly on a first come, first serve basis.
