Addressing High Value Manufacturing skills gaps

The Black Country Skills Factory has launched a second programme of bite-sized training courses for High Value Manufacturing (HVM) companies in the Black Country.

The subsidised courses are developed in conjunction with specialist training providers and colleges, and aim to support employers in the HVM sector address skills gaps and shortages in their workforce.

Courses and master-classes delivered between late September and early November cover various aspects of up-skilling in the following disciplines:

CNC Machining & Turning:
CNC Milling Machines – Changeover & alignment of fixtures (1 day)
Hurco CNC machining centre - Use and operation of Control system (1 day)
Hurco CNC machining centre - 2D milling – programming (2 Day)
CNC turning – Jaw setting and Bar feeds (1 day)

Toolroom, Metals and Foundry:
Metallurgy for non-metallurgists (2 days)
Metal Forming & processing techniques (1 day)
Principles of Heat Treatment (1 day)
Cylindrical Grinding & Mounting Abrasive Wheels (2 days)

Maintenance Multi-skilling:
Switches, Relays & Sensors (1 day)
Omron PLC systems – Introductory (2 days)
Factory Electrical Power Supplies (2 days)
Basic Hydraulic Systems (1.5 days)
Basic Pneumatic Systems (1.5 days)
Oils, Greases & Fasteners (1 day)

Welding Up-skilling:
Mig Welding Introductory Course (2 days)
Mig Welding Improver Course (3 days)
Tig Welding Beginners Course (2 days)

Lean Master-class:
Workplace Organisation (5S) (1 day)

Costs: all courses have received a 30% subsidy from the Skills Factory and are offered at a special rate of £130 per day, per person.
